An Overview of the Plastics Sector in the European Union - Italy - and Mercosur - Argentina and Brazil

This work provides an overview of the plastics sector in Italy, the European Union (EU), Argentina, and Brazil. Here, we consider an economic analysis of the plastic sector in the selected areas, along with an overview of the different regulatory frameworks currently in force. We analyse the different steps taken by Europe, Italy, Argentina, and Brazil towards a circular economy, encompassing the approaches to production and plastic disposal. We have found significant differences among highly regulated economies (such as the EU and Italy) and emerging productive systems (Argentina and Brazil). This is reflected in the structure of the production system and in the way waste collection and recycling are carried out. These aspects will be thoroughly debated.
